President's
Remarks
Congratulations
to Scott Davis (Community Relations Chair), Cheryl Carrington
(JA Coordinator) and the Junior Achievement Volunteers!!
We were "surprised" at a recent function to be honored by
JA for the contributions by the volunteers on behalf of the
FPA of Hampton Roads last school year. Many of you may
have received a request from JA to provide support this year,
and I hope that you will be able to do so in addition to
encouraging other professionals to assist. This is a
great program of financial and business education for children
in all grades and is part of our investment in our community.
JA makes a difference.
NO
SEPTEMBER 10TH MEETING.
We are combining our monthly networking meeting with that of
the Society of Financial Service Professionals on September
12th at 7:30 a.m. at the Holiday Inn Executive Center.
Dr. Gil Yochum will present on the Post-Presidential Election
Economic Outlook. In this election year, there have been
positions developed by both parties and nominees. How
will these plans play out? What would be the
impact of Proposal X or Y on the economy? Please plan to
join us on the 12th. (Reservations
via the website or the click link above).
CFP® Exam
Field Test. This is on the website and is a great
opportunity for those who wish to participate September 25th.
The CFP® Board of Standards representatives are going to "test run" some questions on CFPs® for appropriateness in
future exams.
In
conjunction with Financial Planning Week, we will be
conducting our Symposium on October 10, 2008 at the Airport
Hilton. Just several days left to take advantage of
the Early Bird special (which can be done from the website).
Please note that in addition to a great lineup of topics and
speakers, we are going to conduct our annual CFP® Ethics
presentation at the Symposium vice during January/February
timeframe. Jeffrey Lang from Lincoln Financial comes
with great reviews on content, delivery and focus on the
revised Standards so this will be a wonderful cap to an
excellent day.
Well done,
Jake. This has been a great year for Continuing
Education under the tutelage of Jake Jacklich with valuable
assistance from Karl Klinger and Bob Ponton. For
example, just last week we had a presentation by Bob Miller,
Partner with Williams Mullen and Craig Wilhoit, Partner with
Goodman and Company on Asset Protection, Business Entity
Selection and Tax Ramifications. Great presentation and
round table discussion. This is but one example of the
excellent topics and superlative presenters that Jake has
provided this year.
