President's Remarks

In the last several Networking meetings, I asked the assembled to give the Board specific things we can do to meet our mission statement:  improve the business of our members and raise the awareness in the community of the value of financial planning.  Excellent inputs received and now time to take some action.

At our upcoming Board Meeting, we are going to be choosing from your ideas and moving towards execution.  In addition to the on-going activities of each Chair, we have some major events planned: Bridge the Gap, Financial Planning Week, and the Symposium in the Fall, which directly contributes to meeting our mission.  So its busy and going to be busier.

New Subject.  I anticipate at one of our Breakfasts in the spring that we will be visited by one of the Board members of the FPA.  The FPA Board is taking action to visit every chapter in every state this coming year.  The purpose it to better learn what is happening on the local level and well as to provide feedback to the chapters as ours of initiatives and actions being either taken or considered on the National level.

To make the most effective use of our time, we need to prepare as they do also.  I have never particularly liked or found of benefit when someone from “out there” drops by and asks “Well, how is it going?”  The pregnant silence that follows benefits few and often “real” things never get addressed.

I think we would all benefit if we could provide our guest with some questions and areas we want him/her to address when they visit.  I request your inputs and ideas.  Please send to me at President@fpahamptonroads.com and I will ensure they are forwarded (without specific personal reference) so we can make this time together as much benefit as possible.
