About CE credits ...

The Financial Planning Association of Hampton Roads is registered with the CFP Board as a CE sponsor and intends to register all programs advertised as CE programs with the CFP Board and award CFP® CE credit for them.  These programs will be denoted as "CFP® CE credit applied for", "has been accepted by the CFP Board for CFP® CE credit", or "CFP® CE credit has been granted by the CFP Board".  Satisfactory completion of our CE programs is reported electronically to the CFP Board for CFP® licensees who request CFP® CE credit on their registration form.  When reporting CE completion, FPA Hampton Roads cites the attendees social security number and CFP® license number to the CFP Board.  If you fail to ensure FPA Hampton Roads has accurately recorded these two numbers, you may not receive proper credit of CE to your account by the CFP Board.  Consult the booklet CFP® Certification:  Policies, Renewal Requirements and Continuing Education Standards for more information.  This booklet may be downloaded from the CFP Board's website, www.cfp-board.org.

FPA Hampton Roads may also register some CE programs for Virginia Life Insurance CE credit.  These programs will be denoted as "Va. Life Insurance CE credit (approval pending)", or "approved for Va. Life Insurance CE credit".  Persons who satisfactorily complete CE programs approved for Virginia Life Insurance CE credit will receive Virginia Life Insurance CE credit.  Optical scan completion certificates are no longer awarded for Virginia Life Insurance CE courses; you will receive a plain-paper completion certificate in the mail.  CE credit is reported electronically.  Virginia Life Insurance license holders will receive a "Virginia Insurance Continuing Education Information Handbook" in the mail from the Virginia Insurance Continuing Education Board which outlines procedures license holders must follow to certify completion of their CE requirements.

CE programs approved for Virginia Life Insurance CE credit will be denoted as either "Non-Company/Non-Agency" or "Company/Agency".  No more than 75% of credits towards compliance may be "Company/Agency" courses and at least two credits must be "laws and regulations" credits.  Complete Virginia Life Insurance CE requirements are detailed on the following website:  www.prometric.com.

In order to be at all times honest, correct, and efficient, we administer our CE programs in accordance with CFP Board and Virginia Insurance Commission requirements.  We are legally and ethically bound to adhere strictly to requirements for monitoring attendance and awarding CE credit.  Please do not impugn our character or call your own into question by asking us to turn a blind eye or make exceptions to the rules.

Virginia Life Insurance CE certificates are for specific programs of specified credit hours duration.  There is no option to award partial credit for attending a partial program. Thus, if you arrive after a program begins or leave before a program ends, we have no alternative but to deny Virginia Life Insurance CE credit.

Credit hours for CFP® CE are somewhat more flexible than for Virginia Life Insurance.  CFP® CE credit may be awarded in a minimum quantum of one hour with additional half-hour increments.  Thus, partial credit may be available if you have attended at least one hour of a CFP® CE credit accepted program.

SPECIAL PROCEDURES FOR THE ANNUAL CONTINUING EDUCATION SYMPOSIUM

Virginia Life Insurance CE credit -- To accommodate people who may be unable to attend the entire symposium, we go to added effort and expense to obtain Virginia Life Insurance CE approval separately for the before-lunch and the after-lunch portions.  Thus, if you cannot attend the entire day, you may still receive a Virginia Life Insurance CE certificate for the morning hours or the afternoon hours -- provided you attend the entire morning block or entire afternoon block.  Partial credit is not permitted by the Virginia Insurance Continuing Education Board.

CFP® CE credit -- If you fail to attend the full morning block or afternoon block, the CFP Board permits us to award you CFP® CE credit for the hours you attend.  Credit may be awarded in half-hour increments with a minimum award of one hour.

In order to correctly prepare your CE certificate, we ask that you indicate when registering whether you seek Virginia Life Insurance CE credit, CFP® CE credit, or both.  To avoid delaying your checkout, please advise our Registrar if you will not attend the full day's sessions so the proper notations may be made.
