WHAT IS THE FINANCIAL PLANNING ASSOCIATION?
The Financial Planning Association (FPA) is the membership organization for the financial
planning community. Its members are dedicated to supporting the financial planning process to
help people achieve their goals and dreams. FPA's nearly 30,000 members include individuals and companies who have contributed to building
the financial planning profession and all those who champion the financial planning process. |

WHAT IS THE FPA's MISSION?
The FPA believes everyone needs objective advice to make smart financial
decisions and that when seeking advice of a financial planner, the planner
should be a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ (CFP®)
certificant. That's because in order to earn the CFP® mark,
individuals must pass a comprehensive examination and continue to meet education,
experience and ethics standards established by the Certified Financial Planner Board of

WHAT DOES THE FPA DO?
The FPA offers services and resources designed to help the public understand the importance
of the financial planning process and the value of objective advice from a CFP® professional.

HOW WAS THE FPA CREATED?
The FPA was created by the union of the Institute of Certified Financial Planners (ICFP) and
International Association for Financial Planning (IAFP) on January 1, 2000. |

WHAT IS THE FPA's PRESENCE IN HAMPTON ROADS?
The Financial Planning Association of Hampton Roads -- the local chapter of the
FPA -- counts over 140 financial services professionals on its roll and promotes advancement of
knowledge in financial planning by supporting programs and projects that enable members to
increase their professional knowledge and better serve their clients. |
